GREAT NEWS: The Jets’ $19 million trade for a wide receiver would make sense given the impending draft.
The Ohio State graduate and his college teammate Garrett Wilson are reunited after the
New York Jets made the bold decision to sign quarterback Justin Fields in free agency.
Chris Olave, a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints who played at Ohio State with Fields and Wilson,
is now available for the Jets to acquire in a blockbuster trade.
To bring the three back together,
New York might trade a mid-round pick to New Orleans.
Wilson and Olave together would give the Jets one of the league’s most promising young wide receiver tandems.
In addition to making too much sense to ignore,
it would allow the Saints to select Tetairoa McMillan as their new wide receiver in the draft.
There are several reasons why this trade makes sense,
but one stands out above the others and justifies the transaction.
The Jets’ massive WR2 hole would be filled by acquiring Olave, so selecting a pass catcher with choice No. 7 in the 2025 NFL Draft wouldn’t be very urgent.
Both McMillan and Tyler Warren, a tight end for Penn State, have been strongly linked to the Jets.
arrival would relieve New York of the need to acquire a pass catcher.
The Jets might then be able to recruit a franchise offensive lineman like Armand Membou or Will Campbell.
In an effort to centre the offence around a loaded line, either of these two might start across Fields’ offensive line on the first day.
The Jets might also consider choosing a defensive standout like Mason Graham or Will Johnson. In any case,
adding Olave would relieve the Jets of the burden of their top draft pick while providing them with a lethal trio of playmakers.
