BREAKING NEWS: Red Sox Closer Claims He Lost a Vital Position Battle to a Former Yankee
At least one of the candidates for the closer position says the Boston Red Sox position competition is over.
Three-time All-Star Liam Hendriks, 36, has been vocal in the media about his ambition to become Boston’s closer,
but he acknowledged on Thursday that he hasn’t been able to accomplish so, at least not yet.
According to Christopher Smith of MassLive, Hendriks stated that Aroldis Chapman, a 37-year-old flamethrower,
is the candidate who should be hired at this time. According to Smith,
Hendriks said, “I think it’s been pretty well proven this spring training who deserves that spot after earning it all spring and that’s definitely not me.
” “I’ve always stated that I wanted to win, but if I don’t, it’s okay.
” “I’m going to go out there and do whatever they want of me,
whether it’s three outs, six outs, or something else entirely. Even though things will work themselves out,
Chapman is the player who has looked the best during spring training.
It has been incredible.
“He’s been 97 to 100 pretty much every outing and he’s looked crisp and has looked little fantastic out there.”
Here, Hendriks’s candour and encouragement to his teammate Chapman are admirable.
This spring, Chapman has undoubtedly been spot on for the Red Sox.
Chapman is expected to be Boston’s closer on Opening Day, and the former New York Yankees lefty, who holds the record for the fastest fastball in Major League Baseball history (105.8 miles per hour),
is still throwing gas.
Throughout his remarkable career, Chapman has been selected to seven All-Star teams, won two World Series titles, and been named the 2019 American League Reliever of the Year.
If the Cuban native were to earn a third ring in 2025 while playing for the Red Sox, his resume would be even more legendary.
