Max Christie’s explosive start leads to a Mavericks accomplishment that not even Luka Doncic could match.
Not even Luka Doncic was able to begin his career with the Dallas Mavericks the way Max Christie did.
Christie has been a prolific scorer for his new team ever since the Mavericks acquired him from the Los Angeles Lakers prior to the NBA trade deadline. He finished with at least 15 points in each of his first five games.
He joined a class of three other Mavericks during this era. Kyrie Irving, Jamal Mashburn, and Monta Ellis are on the list.
Even Doncic, who has exceptional scoring ability, failed to accomplish the feat. In the 2018–19 season,
he scored 10 points in his debut game against the Phoenix Suns, disqualifying him from the list right away.
In Thursday night’s Dallas Mavericks game against the Miami Heat, Max Christie maintained his rhythm.
Despite being shorthanded and missing a number of starters, the Mavericks managed to defeat the Heat 118-113 in the end.
Throughout the game, they traded blows, but Dallas made crucial plays in the closing minutes to win.
Christie finished with 19 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, extending the previously noted run to six games.
Kessler Edwards contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, Spencer Dinwiddie scored 18 points and six assists, while Dante Exum led the team in scoring with 27 points and four assists.
With the victory, Dallas moved up to 30-26 and took eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
They are 1.5 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers and 1 game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves. The NBA All-Star break is now underway for the Mavericks. They will be represented at the All Star Game by Kyrie Irving. On February 21, they will play again against the New Orleans Pelicans.
