NEWS REPORTS: Charley Hull Rises to the Top of the CME Group Tour Championship Leaderboard

NAPLES, FL — Charley Hull wouldn’t be significantly altered by a $4 million check.

She is more than satisfied with her life as it is right now and has no plans to make any significant purchases.

Instead, she would be delighted to keep the money and carry on as is.

She is still making every effort to win the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida this week, though.

With just 18 holes left in the year’s final event, Hull shot up the leaderboard on Saturday at Tiburón Golf Club, carding a 6-under 66 to go from a tie for ninth to a tie for fourth.

This move puts Hull one step closer to winning the Race to the CME Globe title and the historic $4 million first-place prize.

Since she won the CME Group Tour Championship in 2016, her second year as an LPGA Tour member, this would not be the Englishwoman’s first time lifting a trophy at this location.

And Hull is as eager as ever to win on the LPGA Tour this week at Tiburón Golf Club after competing last week at The ANNIKA powered by Gainbridge at Pelican and finally finished in a tie for second place against seven-time 2024 champion Nelly Korda.

Hull, however, isn’t considering the money, even though others near the top of the leaderboard may have dollar signs dancing in their thoughts as they try to dream positively before Sunday’s final round.

Her sole goal is to win one of the most prestigious women’s golf competitions.

“I don’t play golf for financial gain.

Hull remarked, “I play golf for the trophies.” ”

I don’t care about the pay; all I want is to go out there and win.

Clearly appreciative that it was $4 million.

However, I want to have fun outside. Just go out there and have confidence because I’ve won this round previously.”

Hull hasn’t won on the LPGA Tour since 2022, when she defeated Xiyu Lin by a single stroke just outside of Dallas, Texas, to win the Ascendant LPGA benefitting Volunteers of America.

In the two seasons since her victory two years ago, she has finished in the top 10 on the LPGA Tour and has come close to winning a third title on several occasions.

However, she has either been defeated or eliminated from contention by the occasional weekend misstep.

Even though there is a lot on the line, the 28-year-old is still as confident in her skills as ever and feels she has what it takes to win at Tiburón Golf Club.

A few weeks ago, Hull won her fourth career Ladies European Tour championship at the Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Riyadh.

It was her first time on that circuit since 2021, and Hull claimed that the victory “reminded her how to win” at The ANNIKA last week.

Some players prefer to be in the lead at the beginning of the final day, while others prefer to chase.

For Charley Hull, the thrill of final-round golf is all about the hunt, that relentless pursuit of the top of the leaderboard that allows her to play as aggressively as possible, and she will undoubtedly be doing just that on day four of the CME Group Tour.

With those winning memories still relatively fresh in her mind and perhaps having learned a few lessons that she can use to find victory lane once again on the biggest stage in women’s golf.

“I think chasing is much more enjoyable,” Hull remarked. ”

You feel more at ease when you go out there and make birdies. Yes, I’m excited about it. I am literally eager.
